Recent advances in technology have enabled the harvesting of male reproductive seed posthumously for potential conception. We will discuss reproductive technologies from a Jewish perspective focusing on posthumous reproduction specifically for the fallen Israeli soldiers of the October 7 war. Topics will include an overview of the Jewish approach to reproductive technologies as well as the current state of posthumous reproduction in the United States and Israel. We will discuss the Jewish legal ramifications of posthumous reproduction, including the treatment of the body after death, issues of paternity and inheritance, and the impact on the laws of levirate marriage (yibum).
