The world we live in today is facing multiple crises- a surge in armed conflicts across the world; high numbers of people living in extreme poverty; low global economic growth; and a climate crisis that has exacerbated fragility. The effectiveness of the multilateral system is increasingly being called into question. Yet, it is not all doom and gloom. Regions such as Africa are stepping forward and playing an increasingly important role in global affairs. The lecture will provide insights into some of the recent trends in multilateralism, the ascendant role of Africa, and makes the case for greater global solidarity.
