You may have seen the remarkable true story in the movie Woman in Gold of Maria Altmann’s journey to reclaim her heritage and seek justice sixty years after the atrocities her family experienced during the Holocaust. Join us to hear from Randy Schoenberg, the attorney who represented her. We will learn about Maria’s journey to retrieve family possessions seized by the Nazis, among them Klimt’s famous painting Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer. Together with her inexperienced, but plucky young lawyer, she embarks upon a major battle which takes them all the way to the heart of the Austrian establishment and the U.S. Supreme Court, while forcing her to confront difficult truths about the past along the way.

This lecture is offered in partnership with the Jewish Genealogy Society of Cleveland
