Nutrition Department Teaching Kitchen Officially Opens

The Department of Nutrition celebrated the grand opening of its new teaching kitchen with a ribbon cutting on Thursday, April 20, 2023.  

The construction of the teaching kitchen sets the stage for the holistic and high impact commitment to enhance and develop nationally recognized excellence in research, education and community programming for the benefit of our students and the entire University community. It enables CWRU to equip students with necessary social skills for success, (team building, as described below) and awareness, knowledge, and skills to take ownership in creating their own healthy eating behaviors, and help others to do the same, based on a skill-based approach.

Stan Gerson, dean of the Case Western’s School of Medicine, says it’s becoming increasingly important for students to learn about social determinants of health, or how the various components of a person’s environment affects their health, and nutrition is part of that. He said food access and poor nutrition are major contributors to adverse health effects in Cleveland.
