Protecting People, Property and Institutional Assets
Security Systems maintains and supports the electronic security, fire alarm and mass notification systems used throughout the university. The department includes in-house systems technicians and a dedicated fire alarm inspector who work to keep campus systems operational, coordinate repairs and support new security projects.
- Maintain and repair the university’s electronic access control systems, including card readers, controlled doors, door alarms and panic buttons.
- Maintain campus security cameras, video recording systems, video intercoms and related equipment.
- Maintain the university’s mass notification system, including its hardware, field equipment and supporting components.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot equipment issues and complete or coordinate necessary repairs.
- Inspect, test and maintain smoke detectors and other fire alarm system devices.
- Coordinate specialized fire alarm services and university fire extinguisher inspections with contracted vendors.
- Manage the assignment and inventory of Public Safety radios and coordinate programming, repairs and technical support with the university’s radio vendor.
- Maintain and deploy the university’s mobile surveillance trailers, which are equipped with cameras and emergency phones.
- Work with departments throughout the university to evaluate security needs and obtain quotes for card access, panic buttons, cameras, video intercoms and other security-related equipment.
- Review security and fire alarm requirements for construction and renovation projects and develop equipment specifications for new installations.
- Coordinate security system installations and upgrades with university departments, project managers, contractors and service vendors.
- Maintain system documentation, equipment inventories and university security standards to improve consistency, compatibility and reliability.
- Provide technical support and system information to Police, Campus Security and Dispatch when needed.
