Stay Safe and Connected
Members of the Case Western Reserve community are encouraged to download from the iPhone App Store or Google Play Rave Guardian, an award-winning mobile safety app offering easy access to the help and resources you need most. The free app—created by Rave Mobile Safety, which the university already uses to send emergency alerts via platforms such as email and text—provides a number of safety tools designed to keep you safe.
By downloading Rave Guardian and registering your CWRU email address, CWRU Police will only ever be a few taps away. The app invites users to create profiles with as much personal information as desired—contact information, medical conditions, emergency contacts and more—allowing officers to respond quickly and precisely to those in need.
Personal information is stored on a secure server and remains confidential unless you request assistance from campus police. A more detailed profile will help safety responders when providing service, but is not required.
For optimal performance, remember to “allow location services” and to keep your Wi-Fi turned “on” when on campus. More information on Rave Guardian is available at raveguardian.com.
*Please remove the CWRU Shield app from your mobile device as this is no longer functional.
No matter the situation you are in, the Case Western Reserve University Police Department is never far away—find the help and resources you need at any time through the Rave Guardian app.
Easy Emergency Communication
In an emergency, a one-button call allows campus safety officials to see your Rave Guardian profile and your current location.
Guardians and Safety Timers
Access an extra layer of safety when walking alone. As a registered user, you can add friends, family members or public safety officials as “Guardians” and send a text message when you begin an activity—say, a walk home from class or to a friend’s residence hall. You can set a timer with your current location, plus a note of where you are going and when you should arrive; you then can share that journey with your “Guardian,” who can track your progress on a GPS map in real time. In the event you do not make it to your destination and deactivate the timer, your “Guardians” and/or campus safety officials will be immediately alerted.
Anonymous Tip Reporting and Real-Time Chat
Prevent dangerous situations by submitting a tip—anonymously or associated with your profile—and have real-time chat interactions with a member of the CWRU dispatch team. This way, dispatchers and police can get the information they need about suspicious behavior, unsafe situations, crimes and the like, and you can be sure the issue is being reported without drawing attention from those around you. The app allows you to text suspicious activity to campus safety officials, using photos or video.
Rave Guardian offers a seamless notification process in the event of an emergency. In extreme circumstances, phone lines may prevent some messages from going through quickly; Rave Guardian’s push notifications allow you to get the message almost instantaneously, even if you don’t have cellular service, such as in the basement of a building. (Wi-Fi access would be necessary.)
Quick Access to Critical Resources
Beyond being able to contact campus police with the touch of a button, you can also access important phone numbers and websites for safety and wellness resources—on campus and beyond.
Safe Ride and Shuttle Tracking
Take advantage of the transportation options the university offers to help you get around campus. Rave Guardian's Website & Resources section offers a link to shuttle tracking, as well as to request a Safe Ride online between 6 p.m. and 3 a.m.; in the Phone Directory, you also can place a call to request a Safe Ride with the touch of a button.
