"College teaching is more than a job. It's a calling, a vocation, and a mission, with distinct responsibilities. We aren't meeting those responsibilities if we don't design meaningful learning experiences; create engaging, immersive activities; and serve as a coach, role model, advisor and, when appropriate, confidant."

UCITE Teaching and Learning Conference (TLC) Grants support the professional development of CWRU faculty, postdoc, and graduate student instructors of record.
Faculty, postdocs, and graduate students who are instructing students at CWRU may engage with campus support centers and resources, like UCITE. Professional Educational Development, however, does not need to be confined to these local resources. UCITE's TLC Grants are available for up to $1,500 per application to expand knowledge and skills of teaching and learning pedagogy for CWRU teachers. The goal of these TLC Grants is ultimately to create active and engaging learning experiences for CWRU students.
Who is eligible?
Full-time teaching faculty (including tenure-track, instructor-track, clinical, and adjunct faculty with renewable, full-time teaching contracts) and postdocs or graduate students serving as instructors of record for CWRU courses.
How should the funds be used?
TLC Grant funds can be used for conference registration, transportation, and lodging. The conference must be a pedagogically-focused conference or workshop, either within a specific discipline or more broadly focused on teaching and learning. Recipients may select to present original research or to actively participate in the conference/workshop.
Funds are available by reimbursement to UCITE, using the appropriate submission form and accompanied by detailed receipts as per University travel policies. Reimbursement receipts must be submitted within 45 days of the conference date, with a final date of June 1 of the fiscal year in which the award was granted.
How do I apply?
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. There are a limited number of awards per fiscal year, however, so please don't delay in your application! Applications are reviewed by UCITE program staff and you will receive notification of the decision within approximately two weeks.
Access the Teaching and Learning Conference Grant application here.
How will I share what I've learned?
Grant recipients are required to share their conference/workshop experiences in one of the following ways:
- Give and document a presentation to your department or school
- Co-facilitate a UCITE Friday conversation with our program staff
- Co-author a UCITE Teaching and Learning Brief with our program staff
- Record a podcast with a member of our program staff. Podcast recordings will be linked to Teaching Resources on the UCITE website
UCITE TLC Grant recipients may also be invited to provide brief comments about their experience for the UCITE website or other university publicity purposes.
