Graduate Application Review Process

Thank you for applying to the Department of Music at Case Western Reserve University. The information below outlines what to expect after you submit your application, including the review process, interviews, auditions, and admission decisions.


After You Apply

After your application is submitted, the Department of Music will review your materials to ensure your application is complete.

  • If additional materials are needed, you will be contacted by email.
  • Please submit any requested materials to musicgradapps@case.edu.

Once your application is complete, it will be forwarded to the appropriate faculty committee for review.

Faculty carefully evaluate each application and will notify applicants by email when the departmental review has been completed.


Interview & Audition

Historical Performance Practice (MA/DMA)

  • Audition videos are due January 5.
  • Successful applicants will be contacted by the Coordinator of Graduate Studies in Historical Performance Practice in early February to schedule a live interview.

Music Education (MAL, MA, PhD)

  • Audition videos are due January 15.
  • Successful applicants will be contacted by the Coordinator of Graduate Studies in Music Education in early February.
  • PhD applicants will also be asked to complete a teaching demonstration.

Admission Decision

If the Department of Music recommends you for admission, your application is forwarded to the School of Graduate Studies for final review.

The School of Graduate Studies makes the official admission decision and will notify you by email when a decision is available.
