Where do artists find their inspiration? Throughout time, artists have looked to current events, the work of fellow contemporary artists, as well as historical time periods to find inspiration for their art. Artists bring in references from nature, the industrial world, religious traditions, and everything in between, when creating art and responding to the world around them. This course will explore the many ways in which artists spark their creativity, and influence those around them. Session topics will include: the artistic exchange between Impressionist artists Édouard Manet and Berthe Morisot in the special exhibition Manet & Morisot; the global histories that have inspired contemporary artist Martin Puryear’s practice in the special exhibition Martin Puryear: Nexus; as well as various artistic influences across the museum’s exhibitions and permanent collection.
This on-site course involves walking through the museum galleries. Assisted Listening Devices are available.
