This lecture recital examines the historical, literary, and liturgical culture of fourteenth-century England through performance of Latin and vernacular devotional music. This musical repertoire encodes the long tradition of lectio divina ("divine reading") and monastic learning into instructional, poetic lyrics in Latin and Middle English as a musical form of preaching.
