About

Costa Rican Baroque violinist Guillermo Salas-Suárez made his directorial debut with the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra in September 2021. Currently finishing his doctoral degree in Historical Performance at Case Western Reserve University, under Dr. Julie Andrijeski, Guillermo has performed with the Atlanta and Austin Baroque Orchestras, Bourbon Baroque, JSBEnsemble (Germany), and leads the Baroque ensemble from CityMusic Cleveland. As guest speaker, he has been invited to present his research on the music from 18th-century Spain and Mexico at Boston, Indiana, and Oregon Universities, and Universidad Nacional (Costa Rica).

Outside music, Guillermo enjoys literature (shameless fanboy of Borges, Calvino, Kundera, and Ligotti), learning languages (currently struggling with Japanese), and practicing yoga (headstand unlocked after many a fall). Upcoming engagements include performances with The Newberry Consort, Early Music Access Project, Berwick Academy, and a recording project with the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra under Barthold Kuijken for Naxos Records

The number of COVID-19 cases nationally and in our region requires Case Western Reserve to enhance efforts to reduce transmission risks on campus. Masks must be worn indoors—preferably KN95s or at least surgical ones; cloth masks are strongly discouraged. In addition, only those who are fully vaccinated (i.e., have received the booster if eligible) should attend any campus event. Leaders continue to monitor pandemic developments and will adjust health protocols as circumstances warrant. Learn more about CWRU's COVID-19 response.
