ISSACS will sponsor three (3) female and/or minority CWRU students (Graduate or Undergraduate) to attend this year’s Women in CyberSecurity (WiCys) Conference in Denver, Colorado (September 8-10).
WiCyS is a national nonprofit with the aim of increasing the participation of women and minorities in the field of CyberSecurity.
Attendees will have the chance to participate in workshops, network with others in the field, and meet with organizations that are hiring. This is a fantastic opportunity for students who are interested in exploring the cybersecurity field as a career option.
Opportunity
WiCys will provide scholarships for the conference room and board.
ISSACS will cover the cost of registration ($40) and travel to and from Denver for up to $1000 per student.
Any currently enrolled CWRU undergraduate or graduate student is eligible to apply.
Students are responsible for coordinating with their faculty for any missed classes, assignments, etc.
As always, students should be aware that they are traveling at their own risk (e.g., COVID-19).
Background
The next annual WiCyS conference will be held in Cleveland in March 2022. Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) is part of the WiCyS Cleveland hosting consortium. The consortium is led by Cleveland State University (CSU), CWRU’s partner in the IoT Collaborative, a regional partnership to foster IoT and related initiatives. Other consortium partners include the Northeast Ohio Cyber Consortium (NEOCC), The Greater Cleveland Partnership (GCP) RITE, and Cuyahoga Community College (CCC).
The WiCyS Cleveland Consortium will provide local support to the WiCyS conference in March 2022 in Cleveland and engage students and industry from across Northeast Ohio. The conference is slated to have 800 students/fellows participating in a 1700-person conference.
The expectation is that the CWRU students attending the 2021 conference will serve as ambassadors within CWRU and help recruit students to participate in the conference in Cleveland in March 2022.
