Retraining

Online retraining is done through your Canvas dashboard.

The Health Education Campus (HEC) training fulfills training requirements for both students, faculty and staff associated with the Health Education Campus. Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) regulations that apply to these personnel include:

  • 29 CFR 1910.1200, Hazard Communication Standard
  • 29 CFR 1910 Subpart Z (PDF), Toxic and Hazardous Substances
  • 29 CFR 1910.1450, Laboratory Standard
  • 29 CFR 1910.1030, Bloodborne Pathogens Standard (and includes general biohazard safey)
  • 29 CFR 1910.1096, Ancillary Radiation Safety
  • Chemical hazards present at university laboratories and how to identify them
  • Other general hazards association with the campus
  • Exposure, exposure limits and protection from exposure
  • Basic laboratory safety skills
  • Handling of chemical and non-chemical waste
  • Emergency procedures

Who Should Train?

  • All Dental School Faculty, Staff, Students
  • All Medical School Students
  • All Nursing Students working at CWRU locations
  • All Clinical workers working at CWRU

In-Person Training (Initial or 1-year past due)

If you are a new HEC associate or are more than one year past training due date (Check your training), you must register for this initial in-person composite safety training. NOTE: EHS is currently only using ZOOM for initial training until further notice. Preregistration is required for all initial training. Class sizes are limited, so make sure to sign up as soon as you are made aware of this training.

How to sign up for this composite in-person training:

Make sure you are logged into Google using your Case login. Then click this sign-up form to register for in-person Zoom training.

Online Retraining (Annual)

Those who have attended the initial in-person (Zoom) composite training may take advantage of this online retraining course though Canvas. This composite safety retraining can be taken at your leisure, and must be completed annually.

Those who have taken individual courses in Laboratory Safety, Biohazards with Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazard Communications, and Ancillary Radiation Safety training in the past (and this is reflected in your training history), may take this composite retraining without taking the initial "in person" safety training, or retaking the individual safety courses..
