Hanson Summer Research Scholar Program

The Department of Biochemistry is honored to be the home of the Hanson Summer Research Scholar Program, which aims to give undergraduate students an opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge they need for a career in biochemical or basic science research.

This program is supported by an endowment in honor of the late Distinguished University Professor Dr. Richard W. Hanson, a beloved former chair and world-renowned colleague in the Department of Biochemistry.

2024 Program Dates and Stipend

In 2024, contingent on permission of undergraduate students to participate in research on campus, this program will support two to four CWRU undergraduates conducting summer research in areas of basic biochemistry at CWRU. Successful applicants will be expected to commit to full-time effort during the 10 weeks from Tuesday, May 28, 2024 through Friday, August 2, 2024.

Hanson Summer Research Scholars will receive a $4,000 stipend and additional funds to partially defray housing expenses.
