Admission Requirements
Case Western Reserve University and our supervised practice sites require proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Students unable to show proof of vaccination will be unable to complete the program.
To be considered for acceptance, candidates must hold or be in the process of completing a minimum of a bachelor’s degree from a US regionally accredited college or university. Foreign degrees must be evaluated by an independent agency to validate the foreign degree is equivalent to at least a bachelor's degree conferred by a US regionally-accredited college or university. The summary section of the evaluation report must state "from a regionally accredited institution." Applicants must also submit a Verification Statement or Declaration of Intent to Complete, from an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) accredited DPD program. Overall grade point average must be at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) and DPD GPA of 3.2 or higher.
The policy of the MS in Public Health Nutrition Dietetic Internship is to provide equal opportunity to all applicants for admission into the program. Selection Criteria
Interns will be selected based on their:
- Communication Skills: Letter of application; experience communicating with groups and individuals; empathy; self-confidence; interview (outstanding candidates will be selected to schedule a 20 minute phone interview).
- Leadership: Positions of leadership in extracurricular activities or work experiences; ability to set goals, take initiative, make decisions, use good judgment, and work independently. Previous and future goals are realistic and clearly identified.
- Academic Preparation: Rigor of coursework; GPA; recipient of scholarships, awards and honors.
- Work Experience: Paid or voluntary work experience in a variety of areas. Positions are of high quality and demonstrate responsibility.
- Management of Multiple Responsibilities: Coursework taken in conjunction with work experience or family responsibilities; involvement with extracurricular activities; organizational skills, dependability, adaptability, and ability to handle stress.
Application Process
1. Submit Applications via DICAS
The MS in Public Health Nutrition Dietetic Internship Program participates in the Dietetic Internship Centralized Application process (DICAS). The on-line application must be completed by 11:59 p.m. Central Time on February 15. The fee to use DICAS is $40 for the first application submitted and $20 for each additional application. Application Components
- Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended should be sent to DICAS Transcript Dept., PO Box 9118, Watertown, MA 02472.
- GRE scores. Although reporting GRE scores is required, we do not set a minimum score for admission.
- Verification Statement of Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) coursework or Declaration of Intent.
- Letters of reference are required from 3 individuals who can attest to your readiness for a dietetic internship. Select people who know you well and can speak to your strengths (professors, work or volunteer supervisors, preceptors).
- The Personal Statement should give the selection committee a good understanding of you as an applicant. DO NOT rewrite your resume. Questions that should be addressed in the personal statement:
- Why are you pursuing a career in nutrition and dietetics?
- Discuss experiences that have helped to prepare you for your chosen career.
- What strengths do you bring to our program?
- What are your long term goals?
2. Register with D&D Digital
Applicants to our Dietetic Internship must participate in computer matching. Register online with D&D Digital for computer matching and prioritize your dietetic internship choices by 11:59 p.m. Central Time on February 15th.
