The United States Internal Revenue Service has announced an increase in its vehicle allowance rate for 2026. The new rate is 72.5 cents per mile. This is up from 70 cents per mile in 2025. The increase reflects rising vehicle ownership costs, including insurance and maintenance. The rate applies to electric and hybrid automobiles, as well as gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles.
University travel from January 1st, 2026 will be eligible for the increased rate when using a personal vehicle for policy-supported CWRU business.
