The CWRU Collegium and Early Music Singers present a concert of Italian vernacular music from the 13th to early 17th centuries. This “vernacular” music includes not just music sung in Italian but also styles and genres that are quintessentially Italian. From laude praising the Virgin Mary to carnival songs, from caccie or hunting songs to the amorous frottole, from ornate instrumental ballate to rustic villanelle, Italians through the ages reveled in the distinctive beauty of their own tongue.
