About The Program
The CWRU Historical Performance Ensembles open their 2026-27 concert series with “La Fête de Vénus,” a celebration of the Goddess of Love in honor of our beloved professor, Dr. Georgia Cowart, who is retiring this year. This lively French spectacle presents music and dance from 17th- and 18th-century France including a cantata by Elisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre that rejoices in the pleasures on the Isle of Délos; a prologue to the opera La Naissance de Vénus by Pascal Collasse in which the Graces prepare the way for Venus’s birth; and a chaconne from Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s Le malade imaginaire danced by a spunky Harlequin.
