Graduation

Students should be aware of graduation requirements early in pursuit of master's and doctoral work. All students are required to apply in advance to graduate. Do this by completing the graduation application in the Student Information System (SIS).

Select your degree for detailed steps to completion:

Students who fail to meet the established deadlines must reapply to graduate. Do this by submitting another application. Adhere to deadline dates, check the calendar. The deadlines posted are firm.

Commencement

The university holds one Commencement ceremony each year in the middle of May. All students who graduate in the preceding summer, fall, and spring semesters are invited to attend. For those attending commencement, we highly recommend that you become familiar with the information available via the commencement site.

Please make note of some important changes in the schedule from prior years for Commencement 2023:

  • University Convocation Ceremony on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at 3:30 p.m. at Veale Convocation, Recreation and Athletic Center
  • School of Graduate Studies Diploma Ceremony on Friday, May 17, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Veale Convocation, Recreation and Athletic Center

More activities are being planned to celebrate your achievement so keep watch for details in the coming months. Any questions can be emailed to gsgrad@case.edu.

Diplomas

Spring graduates will receive their diplomas at the Graduate Studies Diploma Ceremony (see above). Those unable to participate in the ceremony can pick up their diplomas at the Graduate Studies office in Tomlinson Hall beginning the following business day. For summer and fall graduates, diplomas will be available at the Graduate Studies office on the date degrees are awarded. These dates are posted on our calendar.

The university holds diplomas and final transcripts until all financial obligations are met. These must be cleared at least one week before graduation.

Students who want a representative to pick up their diplomas are required to send a request from their CWRU email account to gradstudies@case.edu including the name of the representative. That representative should bring photo identification when picking up the diploma.

Diplomas that are not picked up after two weeks from the degree award date will be mailed to the Diploma Mailing Address on record with the University Registrar's Office.
