Safety Tips

Crimes are never the fault of the victim, but we also want to ensure everyone takes steps that may reduce the possibility of crime. Below are a few tips provided by Case Western Reserve University police:

  • Keep your doors locked at all times, even when in the room or when going down the hall for only a few minutes.
  • Close and lock your windows when leaving your room, even for short periods of time.
  • Keep all property away from windows to prevent someone from reaching in and removing items.
  • Do not:
    • prop interior or exterior doors at any time,
    • hold an outside door open for strangers, or
    • allow strangers to “piggyback” on your access card.
  • If you arrive to your residence hall or office and it appears an unlawful entry has occurred, do not enter. Call the CWRU Police Department immediately at 216.368-3333 from the safety of a neighbor’s room. Never enter the room, touch anything, or confront someone in the room or the building.
