Artificial intelligence (AI) continues to evolve, and many in our community are eager to explore cutting-edge models like DeepSeek R1. While experimenting with AI can be exciting, it’s important to be mindful of data privacy and security risks, especially when using non-CWRU-supported tools.
Use caution with external AI platforms
If you’re trying out DeepSeek R1 through its official website or apps, be aware that:
- No university-owned data should be entered into third-party AI models.
- Sensitive or personal information should never be shared, as models may retain input data.
- Reports indicate that DeepSeek R1’s official site and apps allegedly transmit data to known Chinese government servers, reinforcing the need for caution when using external AI solutions.
Use DeepSeek R1 securely at CWRU
To support safe AI experimentation, CWRU hosts DeepSeek R1 in a trusted, secure environment at ai.case.edu. This version:
- Uses the same DeepSeek R1 model as the official site;
- Ensures data remains secure and is not used for training; and
- Prevents data transmission to unauthorized sources.
