Microsoft has announced a critical vulnerability called "Follina" that is related to Windows and Office, that is actively being exploited. If you have a Windows computer, it is important to make sure that it is up-to-date and protected against this.
Check that Windows Defender or another antivirus program is running and up-to-date on your computer. If you are using the built-in protection of Windows Defender, follow these steps:
- Search for "Windows Security" in the Windows search bar and select "Virus & threat protection."
- Click "Check for updates". Make sure that the security intelligence version has a number larger than 851 in the bolded section of the version number: 1.367.851.0. Or, make sure that the definitions were created after May 30. If the definitions are out of date, click the "Check for updates" button.
- Click the back arrow in the upper left corner to return to the Virus & threat protection window.
- Click "Manage settings."
- Make sure that "Real-time protection," "Cloud-delivered protection" and "Automatic sample submission" are all turned on.
If you are using a third-party antivirus software package, follow the instructions provided by that software company to check and update virus protection. The new "Follina" vulnerability is identified as CVE-2022-30190.
