During Your Trip

Limit Connectivity

  • Whenever possible, limit your connectivity to networks provided by well-known or reputable organization (e.g. "eduroam," College/University networks, trustworthy stores/restaurants, etc.).
  • Limit your interactions with CWRU systems as much as possible, and for those necessary interactions, ensure a secure connection (i.e. VPN or MyApps) is in place.

Employ Awareness

  • Employ a heightened awareness for unsolicited content, including email messages (e.g. phishing attempts) and attachments, and never provide your username or password to a website form. If you have any questions about the legitimacy of a message, contact the [U]Tech Service Desk before clicking.

Start Your VPN

  • As soon as you connect your device to a public network, start your VPN client and connect to CWRU. The VPN secures and encrypts your data communications, and also provides you with the University's perimeter network security protections.
  • In some locations, you may be unable to connect to CWRU's VPN. You may gain access to CWRU applications and services through our Citrix gateway MyApps, using either the web browser or the Citrix Workspace app to bring the virtual desktop to you.

Don't Forget!

  • Do not leave your laptop or device unattended in a public place or vehicle.
