Balancing the demands of work and of life can be difficult. There are some features within technology that can assist with that.
Work days and hours – A person attempting to schedule a meeting outside your work hours will receive a warning. People can also use your work hours to know when to contact you via email or chat.
Work location – Let university members know when you’re on campus or remote by adding this information to your Google Calendar
Out of the office – Automatically alert people when you are out of the office for a vacation or due to illness via Google Calendar. Create a meeting in Google Calendar that spans the time period you are out and change the type of meeting from "Event" to "Out of office". Any existing and new meetings during that time will be automatically declined. Also, people will be alerted that you are out of the office when they compose an email to you in Gmail or start a Google Chat conversation.
Focus time – Set up Focus time on your Google calendar so you can concentrate on a task. It automatically decline meetings and mutes chat notifications.
Appointment schedule – This allows users to create and share a dedicated booking page where others can directly schedule appointments with them. This eliminates the need for back-and-forth email exchanges to find mutually available times. Set it up to block off certain times when you don't wish to have a meeting, such as lunchtime, and require buffer time between meetings.
Schedule send – Compose an email today and choose the date and time when you wish it to be delivered. Not only does delivering a non-urgent message during someone's work hours help promote staff well-being, it may result in a more thoughtful response from the recipient.
Vacation responder – Let people know when you’re out of the office by setting your Vacation responder. This feature will reply back to people who sent an email to you during the set time. University members will also see your status when they add your address to the email.
Gmail snooze – Snooze tells Gmail to temporarily remove that specific email from your inbox and then bring it back to the top of your inbox at a later date and time you specify. The email is not deleted; it's temporarily moved to a hidden "Snoozed" folder and will reappear in your inbox at the chosen time, appearing as a new email.
Away status – Change your status in Google Chat to Away to let your colleagues know you’re not available.
Extended away greeting – After the first ring, callers hear your Away message and can’t leave a voicemail, so your mailbox doesn't fill up while you're out.
Out of office – Let people know when you're on vacation or are out of the office.
Show busy status – Set your availability to Do not disturb or Busy.
