Francesca Brittan, associate professor of music at the College of Arts and Sciences, was selected as a scholar-in-residence at The Bard Music Festival alongside colleague Sarah Hibberd of Bristol University.

Brittan and Hibberd are co-editors of the recently published book Berlioz and His World (University of Chicago Press).

The festival was held at Bard College in New York, Aug. 9 through Aug. 18. At the festival, Brittan and Hibberd led a book launch and gave a series of public talks.

The Bard Festival is a classical music series—held annually since 1990—that attracts large audiences from New York City, as well as major news outlets such as The New York Times.

Each year, the festival features a single composer; this year’s featured composer is Hector Berlioz, the subject of Brittan and Hibberd’s book.

Earlier this year, Brittan assumed co-editorship of the Journal of Musicology, an international venue published by the University of California Press, devoted to exemplary scholarship across the spectrum of music studies. Her co-editor is Sam Barr (University of Cambridge).
