Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, which includes Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, again ranked as a top medical school of research funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) according to the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research 2022 report.
The School of Medicine received $294.7 million from the NIH and ranked 22nd nationally, up one position compared to 2021.
Most notably, the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) at MetroHealth Medical Center and Case Western Reserve University ranked first in the country.
Kevin Kilgore, a MetroHealth staff scientist and medical school professor, ranked second in the country for 2022 NIH funding in physical medicine and rehabilitation. Hunter Peckham, a Distinguished University Professor Emeritus and co-leader of MetroHealth’s Rehabilitation Institute, ranked fifth in funding this year.
Top department rankings include:
- Department of Biomedical Engineering ranked 7th
- Department of Pathology ranked 13th
- Department of Biochemistry ranked 14th
- Department of Physiology ranked 17th
Since 2006, the nonprofit Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research has issued annual rankings based on publicly available NIH data. In addition to individual departments, the institute provides data on medical schools, other health sciences schools and researchers within department disciplines.
