President Snyder Welcomes All to New Academic Year

Barbara Snyder

Dear Case Western Reserve Community:

On behalf of the university's senior leadership, I want to welcome all of you to the campus and to the start of the academic year. To those of you new to the university—whether students, faculty or staff—please accept my special welcome and my very best wishes for your success as a member of our community.

As I look forward from the perspective of the very beginnings of my presidency, I want all of you to know that I am energized by the many possibilities I see for everyone at Case Western Reserve University. The challenges and opportunities ahead provide a real excitement and immediacy to our work here on the campus, and we must be prepared to look for imaginative solutions and unconventional answers.

We pledge to improve the financial standing of the university. The fiscal health of the institution is the framework upon which we build the exciting programs and academic offerings that make the university such a desirable destination for students and faculty. Additionally, I will be working with Interim Provost Jerry Goldberg and a cross section of the university community to create a university strategic plan that will be ambitious, innovative and measurable.

The beginning of the academic year is a good time to honor the traditions and history that make Case Western Reserve University one of the nation's preeminent research institutions. We need to be acutely aware of our university's important heritage and proud reputation. At the same time, we need to look to the future and the work ahead. I ask each of you to join with me in pledging to bring our best efforts to the opportunities ahead. By doing so, we will ensure our future will be as exemplary as our past.

Once again, I offer my personal thanks to all of you for being committed members of the Case Western Reserve community.

Barbara R. Snyder
