CAPS FAQ

The CWRU Administrative Professional Series, or CAPS, is a comprehensive program that provides training on the policies and procedures that direct employees’ stewardship of university funds. The series is comprised of three online and 10 in-person courses. Two of the online courses are required by anyone seeking access to the eProcurement, General Ledger or Accounts Payable modules of PeopleSoft Financials.

The choice is yours. You may take every course in the series—or just those courses of interest to you. A Certificate of Achievement in Financial Management is awarded to employees who complete the CAPS curriculum and score at least 75 percent on the CAPS exam. Two of the online courses are required by anyone seeking access to the eProcurement, General Ledger or Accounts Payable modules of PeopleSoft Financials.

The CAPS course Purchasing at CWRU from A to Z is required for access to the eProcurement and Accounts Payable modules of PeopleSoft Financials. The CAPS course Financial Journals is required for access to the General Ledger module of PeopleSoft Financials. No, only full- and part-time employees of Case Western Reserve may enroll in CAPS courses.

Three CAPS courses—Purchasing at CWRU from A to Z, Financial Journals and Financial Cashiering—are available exclusively online. For an up-to-date listing of in-person CAPS courses, access the UTech Training Calendar or CAPS Registration Form. If a course of interest to you is not listed, complete the CAPS Interest Form.

If you are unable to attend a course for which you registered, you must email a notice of cancellation to caps@case.edu at least 24 hours’ in advance. Your department will incur a $25 no-show fee if you do not provide notice of cancellation at least 24 hours’ in advance. The exam for the Certificate of Achievement in Financial Management is administered quarterly—or as needed depending on the number of eligible parties. If you believe you are eligible to take the exam and have not been contacted by a program administrator, email caps@case.edu.

No, CAPS is proprietary to the university and is not an accredited academic program.

Participants who intend to achieve the Certificate of Achievement in Financial Achievement must complete the CAPS curriculum within one year (twelve months) of taking the first CAPS course.

Yes, if you do not pass the CAPS exam, you may take it one more time. Only two testing attempts are permitted. You may retake CAPS courses at your discretion prior to retesting.
