Graduating Students UTech Access

Upon leaving the university, students’ access to some technology services will also end. Make plans now to ensure your work is still available to you.

If you are retaining an affiliation with CWRU as a student, faculty or staff member, your access to these services will continue.

Upon leaving the university your access to Microsoft 365 is limited to 180 days from your graduation date. Retaining the content after that time will require you to either move the data to a personally accessible system (i.e. your hard drive, a flash drive, a cloud storage service, etc.) or to another Microsoft Office 365 account.

As alumni you can take advantage of Microsoft discounts on their website, where you can sign up to use Office online for free. Microsoft also offers a discount on a year of Office 365 Personal, or you can make a one time purchase of Office Home & Student 2021. Compare the products on their website. This allows you to have continued access to all of Microsoft’s apps on all of your devices using a new Microsoft account that you will set up using a personal, non-CWRU email account. Once you have signed up for the personal Office 365 account, you can follow these instructions to move your files from your university account to your personal account.

You will have access to Canvas account for 180 days after graduation.

If you attended CWRU in Summer 2008 or later you will have continue to have access to SIS.

Access to Zoom will end upon your graduation. Download recordings and export whiteboards to a personal storage device (i.e. your hard drive, a flash drive, a cloud storage service, etc) before your graduation date.

To continue to use this service, create an account by signing up with Zoom with a personal email address for a free, basic license.

As an alumni you won’t continue to have access. If you’re using the home drive (H:/) to store any files, move them to a personal storage system (i.e. your hard drive, a flash drive, a cloud storage service, etc.) prior to graduation.

For questions regarding this or any software at Case Western Reserve University, contact the University Technology Service Desk at, 216.368.HELP (4357) or visit

Your access to Qualtrics will continue for 180 after your graduation date. Before that time, export surveys or responses you wish to keep.

To transfer ownership of surveys to someone continuing with CWRU, email with the name of the surveys and the network ID of the person to receive it.

You will have access to your CWRU GitHub account for 180 days after graduation. After that time you will be removed as members of CWRU’s GitHub organizations. You will still be able to log into GitHub with the same account, but you will not be able to push or pull to repos in CWRU’s organizations.

If you are still interested in any repos in the CWRU organizations, pull the latest changes any time before you lose access and push it to your personal GitHub area outside of CWRU’s organizations.
