    Cleveland Lute Fest 2020

    Location: Case Western Reserve University

    This week-long festival is dedicated to vihuela, lute, theorbo, and early guitars. This program offers world-class concerts from renowned performers, private lessons, masterclasses, workshops, and specialized courses. The CWRU Department of Music contributes to LSA by providing classroom, rehearsal and performance facilities.

    Songs of Rage and Grief: Echoes of Polyphemus

    Location: Harkness Chapel

    Daniel Fridley presents vocal works of various periods and nationalities, reflecting on the emotions of grief and rage through the focusing lens of the character of Polyphemus. The recital is presented as partial fulfillment of the Doctoral of Musical Arts in Historical Performance Practice at Case Western Reserve University.

    Department of Music Colloquium: Music Education Students (CWRU)

    Department of Music Colloquia provide a weekly forum for presentation and discussion of recent research by distinguished visitors and by CWRU faculty and graduate students in musicology, historical performance practice, and music education. Fridays at 4:00 p.m. in Harkness Chapel, Classroom (except where noted). Free and open to the public. Receptions follow.

    Klezmer Music Ensemble Concert

    April 23rd 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM

    Yiddish Khasene: A Celebration of the East European Jewish Wedding

    Location: Harkness Chapel

    A concert featuring klezmer music that was performed at traditional East European Jewish weddings (khasene). The repertoire includes artistic melodies to greet and honor the wedding guests (mazltov, dobriden), virtuosic table songs (tish nigunim), music to bid everyone a fond farewell (dobranotsh, zay gezunt, gute nakht) and more.
