Meet the Executive Program Director

Welcome to the Master of Science in Anesthesia Program at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

As one of the founding programs in anesthesiologist assistant education, we are proud of our long-standing tradition of excellence. Our graduates hold leadership positions in clinical practices, hospitals, academic programs, healthcare organizations, and professional societies, contributing to the advancement of anesthesia care through the training and values fostered here.

Our program is designed to support the next generation of certified anesthesiologist assistants by emphasizing early clinical exposure, where students apply classroom learning in real-world patient care settings from the start. This integration of theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience builds both technical skills and the confidence essential for excellent patient care.

Students benefit from tiered mentorship and the collaborative relationships they build with peers, faculty, and clinical instructors. These connections often become lifelong professional networks, enriching their careers and personal growth.

Across all locations--Austin, Cleveland, Houston, and Washington, D.C.--we create dynamic learning environments that prepare students for the complexities of modern healthcare. Partnerships with renowned medical institutions ensure a wide range of clinical experiences, providing students the critical thinking skills necessary to thrive in varied healthcare settings.

Our program emphasizes professional advocacy, offering students opportunities to engage in local, state, national, and international advocacy efforts. Through involvement in the legislative process and professional societies, students influence the future of the profession and healthcare reform.

For those drawn to education, our program offers pathways to explore academic roles, empowering students to mentor future anesthetists and contribute to anesthesia education.

Our faculty, administrative team, and clinical partners ensure that our curriculum remains at the forefront of healthcare demands while preserving the supportive, rigorous framework that defines our program. The variety of general and specialty clinical experiences helps students deepen their understanding of patient care and prepares them to succeed in any healthcare setting.

As Executive Program Director, I am honored to serve this lively community of students, faculty, administrative team members, and alumni. Together, we are committed to advancing patient care, upholding high standards of education, and fostering a culture of lifelong learning and leadership.

I invite you to explore the Master of Science in Anesthesia Program at Case Western Reserve University, where growth, learning, and leadership in anesthesia thrive--locally, nationally, and globally.

Shane Angus
