The Master of Science in Anesthesia program’s Austin location has expanded its class size by four seats, dedicated to Dallas-based clinical rotations with a pediatric emphasis. This clinical training focus location of our Austin MSA Program enables us to expand the educational opportunities we offer to those students who are interested in living and training in the heart of Dallas, Texas. Our new location will provide courses in varied modalities, with in-person simulation and clinical training, and a hybrid teaching format for didactic courses. Students in the Dallas location are an integral part of the Austin class and will have access to the same faculty and resources as their fellow classmates who have focused clinical training in Austin.
Simulation Training
Our students will complete their simulation learning at the Children's Health simulation site, which will provide simulated, realistic healthcare environments for our students. The various learning experiences at this site will integrate advanced simulators, standardized patients, haptic devices, and authentic medical equipment and supplies - all of which will facilitate the acquisition of competencies required to provide safe, quality patient care.
Clinical Training
After initial anesthesia immersion training in Austin, students will return to Dallas and complete their first-year clinical training primarily at Children's Health. Children's Health Dallas is located in the Southwestern Medical District. As one of the nation's leading pediatric academic medical centers, it provides students with the opportunity to train alongside pediatric anesthesiologists, anesthesia residents and fellows, CAAs, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams while caring for infants, children, and adolescents with a wide range of medical and surgical needs.
Didactic Training
The supported small group learning at our Dallas clinical training location offers students a closer experience with instructors and classmates; students will be able to quickly form one-on-one connections. Classes will be taught in a hybrid modality, with Austin faculty traveling to Dallas on a regular basis for in-person classroom teaching at Children's Health, and the remaining sessions being taught remotely by the same faculty in Austin.
Occasional Travel to Austin
Our Austin-at-Dallas student cohort will occasionally travel to Austin for key events throughout the year. The program will cover the cost of housing while students are in Austin, as well as provide a travel allowance to help cover the cost of traveling back and forth.
