Houston Program History

The CWRU MSA Program has a history rich in leadership, scholarship, and reputation. In Houston we are continuing to expand on that foundation that our founding program in Cleveland has built.

In 2010, the Houston program was opened with the admission of 16 students. In the short time that Houston has been training CAA students, we have expanded clinical training sites more than threefold.

CWRU-Houston is quickly becoming one of the richest clinical opportunities in the country, with students involved in procedures that use the latest technology and surgical techniques. Our students get exposure to everything from cutting edge minimally invasive and robotic surgery to heart-lung and liver transplants, from fetal intra-uterine procedures to massive traumatic injuries.

As a result of their clinical exposure, our students have become leaders within the field. Some of the early success of Houston students and alumni include:

The first two CAAs hired at the Texas Heart Institute were CWRU-Houston graduates. These talented individuals oversee the pre-operative clinic and coordinate research, as well as care for Texas’ and the nation’s sickest vascular and heart patients.

The first CAA student to author a poster presentation for the American Society of Anesthesiologists Poster Presentations 2012 is a CWRU-Houston student.

The Treasurer of the newly-formed New Mexico Academy of Anesthesiologist Assistants is a CWRU-Houston graduate.

The Co-President of the American Academy of Anesthesiologist Assistants Student organization is a CWRU-Houston student.

Houston is excited to be a part of the CWRU MSA tradition and will continue to bolster CWRU’s position as one of the premiere CAA programs.
