The Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing is proud to announce that Evelyn Duffy, DNP, AGPCNP-BC, FAANP (DNP ‘04) the Florence Cellar Professor of Gerontological Nursing, has been selected for induction into the American Academy of Nursing as part of the 2024 Class of Fellows.
The Academy honors a distinguished cohort of nurses leaders for their substantial and sustained impact on health and health care annually.
“This recognition is a testament to Dr. Duffy’s exceptional dedication, leadership, and impact on the nursing profession,” said Carol M. Musil, dean and Edward J. and Louise Mellen Professor, Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing. “Her unwavering commitment to excellence and her many contributions to nursing education and practice have earned her this significant recognition. We are proud to have her as a distinguished member of our faculty at School of Nursing.”
Duffy was inducted as a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP) in 2007. She has been a certified gerontological nurse practitioner for over 40 years and a CWRU faculty member since 1989. She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Case Western Reserve University in 2004 and was honored with a Dean’s Legacy Award. She is also past Coldiron Senior Nurse Executive Fellow through the Marian K. Shaughnessy Nurse Leadership Academy.
Duffy is also lead faculty for the School of Nursing’s adult gerontology primary care program and associate director of the University Center on Aging and Health and Case Western Reserve University.
Also named to this year’s cohort of inductees are
- Mary K. Anthony (PhD, nursing ‘95, MSN ‘97), currently a professor at the Kent State University College of Nursing
- Catrina Heffernan, lecturer at Munster Technological University, Coldiron Fellow and Samuel H. and Maria Miller Postdoctoral Fellow
- Rebecca A. Owens (DNP, ‘19), Chief Nursing Officer at the New York State Psychiatric Institute and assistant professor of clinical nursing at Columbia School of Nursing, Coldiron Fellow
- Airica Steed, president and CEO of the MetroHealth System, a member of the School of Nursing’s clinical faculty and Global Advisory Board member of the Marian K. Shaughnessy Nurse Leadership Academy
- Linda Zieman, senior director of nursing and inpatient services at the Hospital for Special Surgery, Coldiron Fellow
The 2024 Class of Fellows include nurses and educators from 37 states, the District of Columbia and 14 countries. The inductees will be honored at the Academy’s Health Policy Conference in Washington, D.C., taking place Oct. 31 through Nov. 2. This year’s conference theme is “Courageous Transformations Towards an Equitable Future.”
