About the Event

The Joan Terr Ronis Recital Prize was established by Leonard Ronis in 1996 as a memorial to his wife, the well-known Cleveland piano soloist, chamber music artist, and teacher. The prize and recital are presented after a competitive audition process held each spring among undergraduate music students to recognize world-class music scholars at Case Western Reserve University.

The Department of Music at Case Western Reserve University invites you to celebrate the memory of Joan Terr Ronis and the achievements of Jesse Silverberg (horn) and Angela Tsang (piano)—the 2024 Ronis Recital Prize winners.

Jesse and Angela were selected for this honor for their exemplary musicianship demonstrated during their spring jury auditions.

About the Performers

Jesse Silverberg (CWRU)

Jesse Silverberg

Originally from Silver Spring, Maryland, Jesse began playing the horn at the age of nine. A music major at Case Western Reserve University, he is part of the Joint Music Program with the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studied horn with David Brockett and Meghan Guegold. In 2023, Jesse made his solo debut with the Case Western Symphony Orchestra. He has also attended the Aspen Music Festival and School. Beyond his music studies, he is pursuing an MS in Computer Science at CWRU with Professor Soumya Ray.

Angela Tsang (CWRU Music)

Angela Tsang

Angela is a fourth-year student at Case Western Reserve University, majoring in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, and music. She studies piano under Dr. Sean Schulze through the Joint Music Program with the Cleveland Institute of Music. As a winner of the CWRU Concerto Competition, she performed Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy with the Case/University Circle Symphony Orchestra and Case Concert Choir. Angela is also a violinist, having served as concertmaster and sectional principal for the Case/University Circle Symphony Orchestra, El Camino Youth Symphony, and multiple All-State Orchestras in California. An avid chamber musician, she frequently performs with small ensembles at CWRU and alongside her sister, Fiona, a cellist. She is pursuing a BS/MS in electrical engineering, working with Dr. Evren Gurkan-Cavusoglu, and is a member of the Society of Women Engineers, Tau Beta Pi, and Mortar Board. Angela extends her gratitude to her family, Dr. Schulze, and her past instructors for their support of her musical journey.
