About the Artist
Mexican-American soprano Andréa Walker specializes in historical performance practice and vocal chamber music. She is thrilled to be making her debut with Pegasus Early Music, NYS Baroque, Seraphic Fire, and Boston Early Music Festival in the 2024-2025 season. Ms. Walker appears regularly with GRAMMY® Award-winning orchestra Apollo’s Fire. She made recent solo debuts with Les Délice, The American Bach Soloists Academy, and The Atlanta Baroque Orchestra as Belinda in Dido and Aeneas. Other recent solo performance highlights include making her debut at the Lincoln Center in Telemann’s Der Tag des Gerichts with Masaaki Suzuki and Juilliard415, touring Germany as a soloist in Haydn’s Schöpfungsmesse with Yale Schola Cantorum, performing the role of Venus in Daniel Purcell’s The Judgment of Paris with Amherst Early Music Festival, and serving as a guest artist at the Norfolk Chamber Choir Festival under the direction of Simon Carrington.
Equally active as an ensemble singer, Ms. Walker has performed with The Thirteen, Houston Chamber Choir, Bach Society Houston, Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, Lyyra, and the Voces8 US Scholars.
In addition to performing, Ms. Walker is passionate about teaching. She has served as a teaching-artist with The Texas Children’s Choir, Bach Society Houston, and a bilingual teaching-artist with Houston Grand Opera Co. She is currently an Apollo’s Fire MOSAIC Young Artist Fellow, an initiative which aims to share early music with diverse audiences.
Ms. Walker’s musical and scholarly interests intersect with the discovery, interpretation, and performance of obscure music. She is pursuing her DMA in Historical Performance Practice at Case Western Reserve University where she recently presented “An Evening at the 18th-Century Salon: Music, Poetry, and Declamation in the age of C.P.E. Bach” a lecture-recital featuring self-accompanied Lieder in a setting that recreated the ethos of a salon. Ms. Walker is also interested in the visual representation of Baroque music and has gained expertise in Baroque dance and gesture. She recently graduated from the Yale Institute of Sacred Music (MM) where she specialized in early music, oratorio, and art song and was awarded the Margot Fassler Prize in the Performance of Sacred Music. Prior to her time at Yale, Ms. Walker received her BM from the University of Houston and served as associate music director at St. John Vianney Catholic Church.
