Hello my name is Alan Rivera. I am a first year MSA student with Case Western Reserve University’s Houston Master of Science in Anesthesia program. Originally, I am a West Texan native from around the Lubbock region. I graduated from Texas Tech University with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Before being accepted to the program, I was employed as an Anesthesia Technician for three years. Here, I assisted the Anesthesia Care Team in providing functional anesthesia equipment.
Upon acceptance to the MSA program, I was selected to complete my first year at the Austin, Texas location. I moved to the area with my wife and two daughters, age 2 and 6 months, ready to start this great adventure together.
I really enjoy doing my rotations at Baylor Scott and White in Round Rock, Texas. As first year students at this location, we are able to gain a strong foundation in anesthetic techniques in the operating room. This greatly prepares us for our second year, where we specialize in certain areas of clinical anesthesia.
I love being in the Austin area; it is very close to the Texas hill country where there is so much to explore. My hobbies outside of anesthesia include food, both cooking and eating. My wife and I enjoy finding new restaurants with amazing food, as well as trying new recipes at home. I also enjoy playing pool in my spare time as it allows me to get out of my own head sometimes.
I am very excited to keep learning and growing as an Anesthesiologist Assistant student. I love being in the field of anesthesia, and I cannot wait to see what comes next in my journey.
