My name is Kelbie Kerr, and I am currently a second-year Master of Science in Anesthesia student at Case Western Reserve University in Houston, Texas. I cannot believe how quickly a year has already passed and the amount of knowledge and training that I have gained over such a short period of time.
I am currently on a pediatric rotation, and I am very interested in pediatric and pediatric cardiovascular clinical experiences. It is interesting to be able to understand all of the anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system while learning how our anesthetics affect them all while watching a live heart beating on a screen! I look forward to continuing growing as a professional as I continue my second year of clinical training!
At the Houston location, there are so many things to do. I enjoy trying new restaurants as well as going to baseball games (Go ‘Stros!) with classmates and friends. We also have the privilege of being able to attend the many concerts that the Houston Rodeo has to offer in the spring. There are so many parks and museums as well as the zoo just around the corner from the Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, allowing great access for the weekends and entertainment during our free time. I also enjoy going to the outdoor theatre near TMC, which puts on concerts and performances as well.
My advice to new students is to take a deep breath and take it all in because time flies when you’re learning the skills you need to become great at your job!
