Meet Alum, Nicole Cabell (MSA ‘17, Washington, DC) who was recently elected to serve as the Legislative Committee Chair for the American Academy of Anesthesiologist Assistants (AAAA). When reflecting on why she wanted to be a CAA, she shared that “[she] wanted to be involved in the medical field and was looking for a place in the operating room where [she] could have a good work-life balance that kept my interests peaked.” Since graduating, Nicole has worked at George Washington University Hospital. She became involved with legislation when she realized that she resides in a state without CAA licensure; she crosses state lines in order to practice in a place with licensure. This motivated her to be more involved and encourage others to become more involved, allowing future generations of CAAs the choice to practice in more states, including their home states.
Nicole believes the CWRU MSA Program instilled a sense of involvement within the profession from the beginning and that she learned the expectations and professional standards needed in leadership roles. It is with the support of the program that she felt encouraged to run for the Legislative Committee Chair. To the next generation of students, Nicole wanted to pass on some words of wisdom, “follow your dreams and passion and work hard for them -- it's worth it!”
