Living in Austin

Mueller

For students that may want to live closer to downtown Austin, Mueller is a popular community located just three miles from downtown. Known as an energetic, sustainable hub, Mueller was originally a municipal airport that was redeveloped to meet extensive housing and economic development goals. Nearby downtown is a popular destination for students, offering amazing music, river walks, and eclectic culture. However, with many rotation sites sitting north of the city, students tend to prefer other suburbs with easier access to highways and shorter commutes.

North Austin

Just north of Downtown, North Austin boast iconic neighborhoods like Brentwood, Allandale, and Rosedale, which have flourished since the city’s founding in 1839. North Austin is also home to St. David's HealthCare, one of our primary clinical affiliates. Students and alum enjoy this area as well as popular nearby Cedar Park because of its sprawling shopping centers, including The Domain, and vibrant dining scene. The area also offers a number of affordable apartment complexes with easy access to downtown, which attracts young professionals from various sectors.

Pflugerville

Pflugerville has experienced tremendous growth in the last decade, attracting residents with its beautiful trail system, endless business opportunities, and family-friendly community. The city has repeatedly been ranked as one of the top cities in America. Pflugerville hosts festivals throughout the year, and offers plenty of places to shop, eat, and explore.

Round Rock

Round Rock boasts a population of 116,000, and is home to major corporations such as Dell and Emerson as well as our primary clinical affiliate, Baylor Scott & White. Over the last few years, Round Rock has become notable as a seat of major economic growth for clean energy, manufacturing, technology, and science and healthcare industries. Known as a family-friendly community with award-winning parks and school districts, Round Rock is a popular suburb in Greater Austin with a reputation as one of the safest cities in the United States.

South Austin

Known for its laid-back sense of identity and creative culture, South Austin sits south of downtown and has traditionally attracted musicians and other artists. Similar to North Austin, this area is also popular among students and young professionals because of its “Keep It Weird” vibe, easy access to downtown, and vibrant dining scene, which includes a number of kitschy food trailers and trucks. Additionally, the area offers access to more than 1,000-acres of trails and parkland, including the famous Barton Springs, Zilker Park, and the Barton Creek Greenbelt.
