For the last 12 years, Case Western Reserve University has taken a select number of faculty, staff, alumni and student startups to one of the world’s largest tech conferences to showcase their businesses or products.
In early January, more than a dozen participants from CWRU presented at the consumer electronics show in Las Vegas, an annual trade show that hosts more than 100,000 attendees where presenters showcase the newest consumer technologies and electronics. Mindy Baierl, the senior director of the Veale Institute at CWRU, knows how far Case and CES have come.
“This all started a dozen years ago when Bob Sopko, who recently passed away, relentlessly lobbied CES to allow universities to be able to exhibit specifically Case Western Reserve University.” said Baierl. "Knowing that our tech had a place in the world and could have an impact.”
This was the 12th year CWRU participated in CES and had 13 faculty, staff, alumni and student startups. To present through CWRU, the individual must be invited. Two students, Lexi Knight and Ethan Moore, both showcased products from their own companies.
