NINR F31 Predoctoral Fellowship

Quiana Howard, MSN, RN-BC, was given the F31 Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award Individual Predoctoral Fellowship from the National Institute of Nursing Research/National Institutes of Health for her study, “Young Adults with Type 1 Diabetes: Discrimination Stress and Cardiovascular Health.”


2024 Best Faculty Paper Award

Elliane Irani

Elliane Irani, PhD, RN, assistant professor and lead author of “African American family caregivers’ experiences and mental health: A convergent mixed-methods study,” and co-authors Ann W. Nguyen, Uva Sri V. Dasari, Aaliyah Pearl Jennings, Fei Wang, and Ronald L. Hickman Jr., have been honored with the 2024 Best Faculty Paper Award from the Western Journal of Nursing Research/Midwest Nursing Research Society.


Ohio Nurse Anesthetist of the Year

Ashley Showers, DNP, RN, CRNA, FAANA, instructor and assistant director of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation/Frances Payne Bolton Nurse Anesthesia Program, was recently named the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist of the Year by The Ohio State Association of Nurse Anesthetists. The award is given to a certified registered nurse anesthetist who practices in Ohio. Established in 2017, the honor recognizes a certified registered nurse anesthetist who has demonstrated a commitment to the profession of nurse anesthesia through safe practice, or contributions to academia or research.


NAPNAP President’s Choice Award-Winning Article

Toly, Musil, Zauszniewski 2024

FPB faculty Valerie Boebel Toly, Carol Musil, and Jaclene Zauszniewski are among a team of co-authors whose article, “Efficacy of a resourcefulness intervention to enhance the physical and mental health of parents caring for technology-dependent children at home: A randomized controlled trial,” was recognized with the “President’s Choice” Writing Award in the Journal of Pediatric Health Care. Other co-authors on the study include Ming Wang, Katie N. Russell, and Kristie Ross. 

“President’s Choice” articles are selected by the current President of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP). The articles selected are representative of NAPNAP’s mission, highlight the association’s strategic direction, reflect the broad range and diversity of the members’ areas of expertise in regards to specialty, setting, and population, and best illustrate the integration of research and scholarship into practice to improve outcomes.


NIH News and Updates

NIH fellowship application and review criteria are undergoing changes that take effect for due dates on or after January 25, 2025. These involve restructuring the review criteria used to arrive at an overall impact score, as well as modifications to sections of the PHS Fellowship Supplemental Form, candidate biosketch, and referee letter instructions. On September 19, 2024, NIH will be hosting a webinar to review changes; more information and registration links can be found on this NIH webpage.

NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy (DMS) FAQ Updates 

The National Institutes of Health has updated its FAQs on the DMS Policy. Key updates include Section B: “Managing and Sharing Scientific Data” (Question #16) and Section D: “Compliance and Enforcement” (Question #2). For more information, visit NIH DMS FAQ Updates.
