The American Lung Association, the Reid Wiley Charitable Foundation, and the Frances Payne Bolton (FPB) School of Nursing invite you to attend the Wiley Asthma Program Kickoff Event at the Samson Pavillion at Case Western Reserve University on January 26, 2024, from 12-1:30 p.m. This event will highlight the Reid Wiley Charitable Foundation, celebrate FPB students' collaboration with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, and introduce the American Lung Association’s asthma self-management program.
The Reid Wiley Charitable Foundation was created by Reid’s parents, Glenn and Mary, and their daughter Erin, after Reid lost his life to complications from Asthma on December 29th, 2020. Their foundation aims to provide funding for the American Lung Association to create in-school educational and support programs on asthma for school-age children in Northeast Ohio. Open Airways and Kickin’ Asthma are programs the American Lung Association developed to educate and empower school-age children with asthma. In coordination with Cleveland Metropolitan School District nurses, student nurses from FPB have facilitated these programs at various schools throughout the Cleveland Metropolitan School District for over a decade.
We’d love for you to join us on January 26th at 12 p.m. at Case Western’s Samson Pavilion, 9501 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, OH 44106. The program will begin with lunch at 12:00 p.m. It will feature the success of these programs and encourage facilitator training to increase the number of students in NE Ohio who complete the Open Airways and Kickin’ Asthma programs. The main program will wrap up at 1:30 p.m. We will offer an optional Asthma Basics Workshop, a 1-hour course worth 1 CEU credit, from 1:30-2:30 p.m.
