Professor Emeritus
Dennis R. Young is a professor emeritus at both Case Western Reserve University and Georgia State University (GSU).
A leading scholar in nonprofit studies, he served as director of GSU’s nonprofit studies program and held the Bernard B. and Eugenia A. Ramsey Chair in Private Enterprise. From 1988 to 1996, he led the Mandel Center for Nonprofit Organizations and held the Mandel Professorship in Nonprofit Management. He has also been an executive in residence at Cleveland State University’s Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs.
Young was the founding editor of Nonprofit Management and Leadership and currently serves as founding editor of Nonprofit Policy Forum. He is a past president of the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA) and has published widely on nonprofit economics, strategy and social enterprise, including the influential book, If Not for Profit, for What? He has served on national and international boards, including the National Council of Nonprofits and the Foundation Center of Atlanta, and currently chairs the Research Advisory Network for the National Center for Nonprofit Enterprise.
His numerous awards include ARNOVA’s Distinguished Achievement Award, an honorary doctorate from the University of Liège, and the Innovation in Nonprofit Research Award from Ben Gurion University.
