May 6 | 5:30–6:30 p.m. | Zoom | RSVP by May 5

Join us virtually on this special evening to honor Dean Gilmore's legacy and celebrate the many accomplishments and friendships made over the years. After 20 years of leadership as dean of the Jack, Joseph, and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences, and 46 years as a member of the faculty at Case Western Reserve University, Grover “Cleve” Gilmore is retiring on June 30, 2021. Gilmore has been integral to numerous university successes—his visionary leadership has propelled the Mandel School into a future of educational excellence, innovation, enhanced financial security and distinguished service.

Leadership Fellows Capstone Presentations

The Mandel Leadership Fellows will present their capstone projects via webinar on Thursday, May 13, from 5–7:30 p.m. Culminating scholarly projects completed by the Fellows in conjunction with their evidence-based practice course (SASS 538: Evidence-Based Practice, Selection, Implementation and Practice Issues), the projects are completed in students' final semester. The capstone projects critically examine contemporary evidence-based social work practice and typically propose new or best-practice innovations and applications.

MSSA to MSW Degree Transition Virtual Panel Discussion

May 17 | 5:30–6:30 p.m. | Zoom

Case Western Reserve University and the Ohio Department of Higher Education have authorized the Mandel School to offer the Master of Social Work (MSW) degree to all students who matriculate in August 2021 and thereafter. We have great respect for the MSSA degree name and all it represents, so this decision did not come lightly. In making the transition to a new degree name, we are recommitting to our mission of providing exceptional educational experiences for every student.

2021 Commencement

May 29 | Early afternoon | In-person diploma ceremony

After extensive discussion and a survey of graduating students, the university has decided to hold in-person graduation diploma ceremonies this year. The Mandel School's ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 29, in the early afternoon (time TBD). The ceremony will take place on Freiberger Field and be live-streamed for family and friends to watch in real time. Public health considerations require that we limit attendance only to graduates and select faculty and staff assisting with the ceremonies. We recognize that limiting attendance to graduates is disappointing to families and friends, and regret that COVID-19 prevention and safety protocols require it.
