Student Life Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee

The Student Life Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee, founded in the fall of 2019, works to:

  • Understand the needs of diverse and marginalized student populations and create both educational opportunities for professional staff to learn, as well as provide recommendations for divisional strategies and programs for student support
  • Enhance current Division of Student Affairs Processes and Policies with an eye toward diversity, inclusion, equity
  • Provide the division with access to awareness, knowledge, and skills focusing on DEI frameworks
  • Reform the Staff of Color Alliance (SOCA) to provide space and support within the division to enhance retention and community

Staff of Color Alliance (SOCA)

The Staff of Color Alliance provides space and support within the division to enhance retention and community. Its mission is to build a connected community that engages, supports, and empowers staff of color within the Division of Student Affairs and Division of Student Success.

SOCA will host quarterly meetings with various topics including:

  • Professional Development focused on staff of color needs
  • Inclusive Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement Strategies
  • Identity Dialogues

DEI Phenom Awards

DEI Phenom Awards recognize excellence in DEI programming, outreach, and education and are awarded on a quarterly basis. The Student Life DEI Committee recognized Individual Staff, Collaborative DEI Programming, and DEI Programming.
