Mentoring

What is a mentor?

A mentor is someone who makes a long-term investment into helping someone develop and shape their long-term goals both personally and professionally. They often share common interests and goals with their mentee, but most of all has a chemistry that often cannot be quantified. In most cases a mentor develops organically and over time through a mutual investment of the mentor and mentee.

A mentor may be the person assigned as your formal advisor, another faculty member, a professional on campus, or someone you encounter through community or professional engagement. They can take many forms so be open to the moment when you discover an individual you admire or shows personal interest in you. Be sure to invest time into that relationship as it will be an important one!
