The CWRU Collegium Musicum presents three fascinating vignettes into the musical culture of Renaissance Spain:

  • Musicology PhD candidate Maura Sugg shines new light on Tomás Luis de Victoria’s use of self-imitation in his motet O quam gloriosum and mass based on this motet;
  • Musicology PhD candidate Carlos Gámez explores chant manuscripts from Spain and Mexico now housed in the Special Collections of Kelvin Smith Library; and
  • Historical Performance Practice DMA student Danur Kvilhaug leads a rousing rendition of the Danzas del Corpus Christi of Juan Bautista Comes.

These vignettes will be interspersed with selections from the Cancionero de Palacio, a manuscript of 15th- and 16th-century polyphony.
