The Cleveland MSA program is thrilled to be participating in this year's Interprofessional Hygiene Drive benefiting the Greater Cleveland Food Bank. First-year MSA Students Maureen Madar and Taylor Holewinski, with support from fellow students, coordinated with other CWRU health professional programs across campus to engage in a friendly competition to promote the drive. All health professional school programs are grouped into teams by class year, and each week there will be updates on the current winning team. An interprofessional mixer is being planned, where the winning team will be announced.
Students on campus are encouraged to drop off toothpaste, razors, deodorant and other suitable toiletries and hygiene products to team-designated donation boxes throughout the month of November.
Donations will go to local community members on the Greater Cleveland Food Bank's SNAP (food stamps) program. As of 2018, over half of our neighbors in Hough (the neighborhood surrounding CWRU and the HEC) were recipients of SNAP. However, SNAP does not cover hygiene products. As a result, many people on SNAP struggle to maintain things as integral to health as clean clothes, dishes, and overall personal hygiene.
This is a great opportunity to both spread awareness of the CWRU MSA program/CAA profession to fellow CWRU students, while also helping the Greater Cleveland Food Bank and our local community.
