FPB Faculty, Jesse Honsky, DNP, MPH, RN, PHNA-BC and Shannon Wong, CPNP, MSN, BSN, RN, have been volunteering at the Phase 1A vaccination clinics, also called Points of Dispensing (POD).
Led by the Cuyahoga County Board of Health and Cleveland Department of Public Health, Honsky and Wong have learned about the process for dispensing the vaccine; including how to handle the vaccine, how to administer the vaccine and how to monitor people for side effects after the vaccine is given.
Currently, the Cuyahoga Board of Health is immunizing at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds and the Cleveland Department of Public Health is immunizing at the Cleveland Public Auditorium. The location and number of these sites will grow as the vaccine becomes available to more people. The Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing is working with the School of Medicine and faculty from the MSN program to coordinate student efforts.
FPB has reached out to local alumni to assist FPB faculty in the delivery of the COVID-19 vaccine to the Case Western Reserve University community. The university is preparing for University Health & Counseling Services to become a vaccination distribution POD for CWRU students, faculty and staff, and FPB is taking a leading role in this effort. The alumni volunteers are required to have an active, unencumbered RN license in Ohio. For more information on this initiative, please contact Dr. Elizabeth Click (NUR ’19, ‘87) at erc10@case.edu, who is serving as the coordinator for FPB. If you are a local alumni interested in volunteering and have an active, unencumbered RN license in Ohio, please contact Jennifer Sizemore at jls385@case.edu. This is an opportunity for FPB and CWRU to continue supporting the local COVID-19 pandemic response. We are honored to participate in this effort to vaccinate our CWRU community, and grateful for our alumni who are helping in this endeavor
